Laser for post-inflammatory erythema

Post-inflammatory erythema is lingering pink, red, or purplish color after skin inflammation heals. It is different from a brown mark because the visible change is linked mainly to blood vessels and altered blood flow near the surface. Acne is a common trigger, but picking, irritation, eczema, or a procedure can also leave this pattern. A clinician first checks that the original problem is quiet and that the mark is erythema rather than pigmentation, a scar, or an active rash.

A vascular laser, such as pulsed dye laser, may target superficial blood vessels; IPL Photofacial can use a broader range of light. Several appointments may be advised, with settings adjusted for the area, redness, and skin tone. Temporary warmth, swelling, or color change can occur. Protect the area from sunlight, use the aftercare recommended for your skin, and avoid picking while it settles. Treating ongoing acne or irritation helps reduce new marks.

Arrange a skin assessment if redness is spreading, painful, hot, swollen, crusted, or associated with pus or fever. Seek prompt advice if a mark bleeds, changes quickly, or does not resemble the surrounding healed skin. A new flare may need medical treatment before any cosmetic laser session.
