What should you know about labrynthitis antibiotics?

Labyrinthitis affects the inner ear and can cause vertigo, imbalance, nausea and sometimes hearing symptoms. An examination helps distinguish it from other causes of dizziness. Antibiotics may be considered only when a clinician finds a bacterial infection or another condition that needs them; they do not remove inflammation caused by a virus. Taking leftover antibiotics can cause side effects and make future infections harder to treat.

Arrange an assessment if spinning, imbalance or hearing change is new or persistent. Rest, drink fluids, move slowly and avoid driving, heights or machinery while balance is unreliable. A clinician may discuss short-term medicines for nausea or vertigo and may arrange hearing or balance follow-up. Take antibiotics only when prescribed, following the instructions and reporting a rash or severe diarrhoea.

Seek urgent help for sudden hearing loss, severe headache, new weakness, facial drooping, trouble speaking, fainting, chest pain or inability to walk safely. Fever with severe ear pain, swelling behind the ear or worsening vomiting also needs prompt assessment.
