KT Tape for Achilles Bursitis: What to Know

Achilles bursitis involves irritation of a small fluid-filled sac near the heel, often where pressure or repeated rubbing affects the area. Tape can change skin sensation and remind you to reduce aggravating movement. It cannot drain fluid, remove infection, or confirm whether pain comes from the bursa, tendon, or another structure. Have a trained clinician show you the placement, especially if the painful area is close to the heel bone. Apply tape to clean, dry skin without pulling it tightly over tender or swollen tissue. Remove it if itching, burning, blistering, numbness, or colour change develops. Pair any short-term support with activity modification, footwear that does not press the heel, and a gradual return to loading. A clinician may discuss Anti-Inflammatory Medication or other options when symptoms persist.

Arrange prompt assessment for marked redness, warmth, drainage, fever, rapidly increasing swelling, or pain after a sudden injury. Seek urgent care if you cannot walk normally, the calf becomes swollen and painful, or the foot becomes cold, pale, or numb.
