What should you know about Korean PDO threads?

PDO stands for polydioxanone, a material that the body gradually breaks down. In aesthetic procedures, smooth threads may be placed to support tissue or stimulate a local healing response, while barbed designs can provide more immediate traction. “Korean” may refer to the product, manufacturer, or technique; it is not a substitute for checking the exact material, design, sterility, and intended use.

Thread placement is a procedure, not a topical skincare step. Suitability depends on the treatment area, skin and soft-tissue anatomy, healing history, medicines, and the result you want. Threads cannot reproduce every change achieved by surgery.

Ask to see the sealed product and confirm its material, expiry information, and intended area. Tell the clinician about blood-thinning medicines, allergies, previous procedures, infection, autoimmune illness, and a tendency to form raised scars. Follow instructions after placement: limit pressure and unnecessary facial movement as advised, keep entry points clean, and avoid manipulating a thread. Attend a review if one is arranged.

Report worsening pain, warmth, redness, swelling, discharge, asymmetry, dimpling, or a thread that can be felt or seen through the skin. Urgent medical assessment is needed for fever, rapidly spreading redness, severe pain, marked discoloration, facial weakness, breathing difficulty, or vision changes.
