What should you know about Korean microdermabrasion?

A handpiece passes over cleansed skin to exfoliate the outer layer, often using a crystal or diamond surface with controlled suction. The Korean label may describe a clinic style, product range, or protocol rather than one universal medical method. It may make rough texture feel smoother and help dull surface buildup look fresher, but it does not treat every cause of acne, pigmentation, redness, or scarring.

Sensitivity, active irritation, open wounds, cold sores, and some inflammatory skin conditions can make resurfacing unsuitable or require postponement. Tell the clinician about recent peels, retinoids, isotretinoin, eczema, rosacea, and any tendency to form raised scars.

Before treatment, ask which device, abrasive tip, suction setting, and products will be used. Arrive with clean skin and follow instructions about pausing irritating products. Afterward, use a bland moisturiser, avoid picking or scrubbing, protect exposed skin from sunlight, and wait until your clinician permits acids, retinoids, waxing, or another exfoliating session. Mild tightness, pinkness, or flaking can occur while the surface settles.

Contact the treating clinic if swelling, burning, tenderness, crusting, or redness is worsening rather than settling. Seek prompt medical assessment for blistering, pus, spreading warmth, fever, eye symptoms, or a painful rash, especially if the treated area is near the eyes or mouth.

Ask what concern the treatment is expected to address, whether your current skin condition changes the plan, how suction and abrasion will be adjusted, and which products or activities you should avoid afterward.
