What should you know about Korean face lift threading?

Short answer

Korean face lift threading is a minimally invasive thread lift that places absorbable threads under the skin to provide temporary support and encourage a gradual collagen response.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Also called
PDO thread lift or non-surgical facelift
Main purpose
Subtle support for mildly sagging facial skin
Material
Often an absorbable thread such as polydioxanone
Recovery
Bruising, swelling, tightness, and tenderness may occur

What the treatment involves

A clinician first marks the areas to be treated, such as the cheeks, jawline, brows, or neck. After cleansing and local anaesthetic, a fine needle or cannula guides the threads beneath the skin. Barbs or cones on some threads can catch nearby tissue and create a subtle lifting effect when the skin is repositioned. The threads are usually made from an absorbable material such as polydioxanone; they are not the same as surgical facelift sutures.

The result is usually a modest change in contour rather than the degree of lift produced by surgery. Swelling, bruising, tenderness, tightness, dimpling, or a feeling of pulling can occur while the tissues settle. Thread lifts do not remove excess skin, and they cannot correct every cause of facial ageing or sagging.

How to prepare and recover

Before treatment, share your medical history, allergies, medicines, tendency to form raised scars, and any active skin infection. Your clinician may advise how to manage medicines or supplements that can increase bruising; do not stop a prescribed medicine without medical advice. Ask who will perform the procedure, which thread material will be used, where it will be placed, and what follow-up is included.

Afterward, follow the clinic's wound-care instructions. Keep the treated area clean, avoid rubbing or pressing on it, and postpone strenuous exercise, facial massage, and treatments that heat or manipulate the skin until your clinician says they are appropriate. Sleep with your head raised if advised, choose softer foods if chewing is uncomfortable, and attend the planned review so healing and symmetry can be checked.

When to seek medical care

Contact the treating clinic promptly if pain, redness, warmth, or swelling is worsening rather than settling, or if a thread becomes visible, breaks through the skin, or causes a persistent sharp sensation. Seek urgent medical help for heavy bleeding, breathing difficulty, sudden weakness, or a rapidly spreading allergic reaction. Fever, pus, or marked tenderness can signal infection and needs prompt assessment.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether your degree and pattern of sagging are suitable for threads, what change is realistic for your face, and whether skin quality or previous procedures could affect the result. Clarify the expected recovery, warning signs, thread type and placement, the plan if asymmetry or infection develops, and which non-surgical or surgical alternatives may fit your goals.

Questions people ask

Is Korean face lift threading the same as a facelift?

No. Threading is performed through small entry points and provides support without removing excess skin; a surgical facelift uses an operation to reposition deeper tissues and remove or tighten skin.

Can threads treat sagging skin everywhere on the face?

No. Suitability depends on the location and degree of laxity, skin quality, facial structure, and your goals. A consultation is needed to decide whether threads are appropriate.

What can make recovery harder?

Pressure on the treated area, strenuous activity too soon, an active skin infection, or medicines that affect bleeding can increase problems, so discuss these factors before treatment.
