What should you know about the Kenz ECG machine?

An ECG traces the timing and pattern of each heartbeat. Sticky electrodes are placed on the chest and sometimes the limbs, then connected to the machine by leads. The recording appears as lines on a screen or printed report. A clinician looks at the tracing alongside your symptoms, medical history, pulse and blood pressure; the machine output is not a diagnosis by itself.

The test can help assess an irregular rhythm, a fast or slow rate, or changes that may suggest strain or reduced blood flow to the heart. A brief recording can miss symptoms that come and go, so another type of monitoring may sometimes be discussed.

Wear clothing that allows access to your chest and tell the clinician about medicines, implanted devices, skin irritation or chest hair that may affect electrode placement. Rest quietly before the recording and follow instructions about movement and breathing. The electrodes may feel cool when applied and removal can mildly tug at the skin.

Bring the reason for the test and describe when symptoms occur, including palpitations, chest discomfort, breathlessness or faintness. Ask how and when the result will be explained.

An ECG appointment should not delay urgent help. Seek emergency care for chest pressure or pain with sweating, severe breathlessness, fainting, sudden weakness, or a heartbeat that is accompanied by collapse or marked dizziness. If symptoms are milder but recurring, arrange a clinical assessment and mention the pattern.

Ask what the ECG was intended to check, whether the tracing was clear, whether your symptoms might require longer monitoring, and which warning signs should prompt urgent care.
