Keloid treatment in Ayurveda: what to know

A keloid is an overgrown scar that extends beyond the original cut, piercing, burn, or inflammation. It may feel firm, itchy, sore, or tight and can keep enlarging after the skin has closed. Herbal oils, pastes, or supplements can irritate the area, trigger contact dermatitis, or interfere with an open wound. Natural does not automatically mean suitable for scar tissue, especially near the eyes or on freshly treated skin.

Tell both your dermatologist and Ayurvedic practitioner about every product, supplement, and procedure you use. Do not apply an untested paste to broken skin, inject a preparation, or massage a growing keloid forcefully. A dermatologist may discuss silicone, steroid injections, laser approaches, freezing, or surgery, sometimes in combination. If you prefer complementary care, use it as supportive skin care only after the treating clinician confirms that it will not delay wound healing or obscure changes.

Arrange an examination for a new raised scar, rapid growth, persistent bleeding, ulceration, marked pain, pus, or warmth spreading beyond the scar. Seek urgent help for fever with worsening redness or swelling. A lump near the eye, airway, or a joint deserves particular care because location can affect function and treatment choices.

Ask whether the diagnosis is certain, whether a proposed herbal ingredient can irritate or interact with your medicines, and which evidence-based options fit the scar’s site and behaviour. Ask how progress will be monitored.
