What should you know about a keloid solution?

Keloids form when healing produces more scar tissue than the original injury needs. They can appear after acne, piercings, cuts, injections, or surgery and may continue to thicken after the skin has closed. Itch, tenderness, stinging, tightness, and colour change can make a small scar troublesome.

The right approach depends on whether the keloid is growing, how deep and broad it is, where it sits, and what has already been tried. A plan may focus on symptoms, appearance, function, or several of these goals together.

A dermatologist may recommend steroid injection into the scar, laser treatment for selected redness or texture concerns, or cryotherapy for suitable lesions. Surgical removal can reduce the raised bulk, but it should be paired with a recurrence-prevention plan rather than treated as a stand-alone answer.

Keep the area free from rubbing and avoid self-treatment with acids, cutting tools, or unverified creams. Bring a list of previous procedures and describe any reaction, regrowth, or pigment change after them.

Seek a clinical review when a scar starts expanding, becomes painful or persistently itchy, or interferes with clothing, sleep, or movement. Prompt care is needed for sudden swelling, heat, spreading redness, pus, bleeding without clear trauma, or fever.

Ask what outcome is realistic for your scar, which treatment carries the least irritation for your skin, how healing will be managed, and how recurrence will be monitored.
