Keloid scar revision: what to expect

Revision means changing an existing scar rather than treating a fresh wound. The aim might be to reduce bulk, ease itching or tenderness, improve movement, or make the area less noticeable. A keloid can be active, with ongoing growth, or stable but still troublesome.

The clinician considers the scar's thickness, colour, firmness, location, previous treatments, and your tendency to form raised scars. This assessment helps separate a keloid from a hypertrophic scar or another skin lump.
