What should you know about keloid prevention piercing?

A piercing deliberately creates an injury, and some people respond by making scar tissue that grows beyond the original opening. A personal history of keloids, or close relatives with them, raises concern. Earlobes, shoulders, chest, and other areas can develop raised scars, although a keloid can occur at any injured site.

A small bump after piercing may instead reflect normal healing, irritation, allergy, infection, or a different skin lump. Its timing, colour, firmness, and growth pattern help a clinician judge what is happening.

Afterward, follow cleaning guidance, avoid twisting or removing jewellery without advice, and reduce rubbing or pressure. Do not squeeze a bump or cover it with unapproved products. Early review matters if a raised area keeps enlarging, because a clinician can discuss options such as steroid injection or other treatment.
