The tumour may form a firm swelling or cause local pain, although symptoms can be subtle and develop gradually. Imaging helps show the surface origin, its relationship with nearby bone and soft tissue, and whether other areas need assessment. A biopsy reviewed by a specialist pathologist is used to confirm the tumour type and grade. The grade describes how the cells look and helps the team plan treatment; it does not come from symptoms alone.

Care is usually planned by a sarcoma team. Surgery aims to remove the tumour with an appropriate rim of surrounding tissue while protecting function. The operation may require reconstruction of bone or nearby structures, depending on its site. Imaging and biopsy findings guide whether additional treatment is discussed. Proton therapy is a specialised radiation option that may be considered in selected situations, but suitability depends on the tumour and surrounding organs. Ask for a clear explanation of the proposed margins, rehabilitation, and follow-up imaging.

Report a growing lump, new or worsening pain, reduced movement, numbness, or weakness to the treating team. After biopsy or surgery, contact them for fever, increasing redness, wound drainage, uncontrolled pain, or new limb swelling. Sudden severe pain, loss of function, or breathing difficulty needs urgent assessment.
