What should you know about ivp cystoscopy?

A clinician passes a cystoscope through the urethra into the bladder after using local anaesthetic or another planned anaesthetic. Sterile fluid may be used to gently expand the bladder so its lining can be viewed. The clinician may take a small tissue sample or treat a minor finding during the same procedure when appropriate.

Cystoscopy can help investigate blood in the urine, repeated urinary symptoms, or a suspected bladder tumour. A visual finding is not the same as a final diagnosis; tissue examination and other tests may be needed. If bladder cancer is being assessed, the result is interpreted with the rest of the care plan.

Follow instructions about eating, drinking, medicines, and arrival time. Tell the team about blood-thinning medicines, allergies, pregnancy, urinary infection symptoms, and difficulty passing urine. Afterward, mild burning or a small amount of blood can occur for a short time. Drink fluids if your clinician permits, and follow the discharge instructions about activity and medicines.

Contact the care team for fever, chills, worsening pain, heavy or persistent bleeding, cloudy or foul-smelling urine, or difficulty passing urine. Seek urgent care if you cannot urinate, feel faint, or become seriously unwell. These symptoms can signal infection, bleeding, or blockage and should not be managed by waiting at home.
