Itchy Rash on the Chest and Neck in Women

The neck and upper chest come into contact with perfume, sunscreen, hair products, jewellery, bra straps, collars, and laundry products. Contact Dermatitis may follow one of these exposures, sometimes where a product has run or transferred. Heat Rash can appear after sweating or friction, while Atopic Dermatitis may produce dry itchy patches. A scaly ring or advancing edge can fit Ringworm. A rash that begins after a new medicine may be a Drug Rash. In women, hormonal changes, pregnancy, or breast-area moisture can change the context, but sex alone does not identify the cause.

Stop fragranced products on the area for now, wash gently, and apply a bland moisturiser. Keep the neck and chest cool and dry, change out of damp clothing, and choose soft breathable fabrics. Avoid necklaces, tight straps, scrubbing, and layered creams until the skin settles. Take a clear photograph and list recent cosmetics, hair products, detergents, medicines, supplements, and sun exposure. If the rash is in a skin fold beneath the breast, dry the area carefully and ask a pharmacist or clinician for advice rather than using a steroid or antifungal product at random.

Arrange a review if the rash persists, spreads, recurs after product use, affects the nipple or breast skin, or develops scale, crusting, pain, or discharge. Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, facial or tongue swelling, widespread blistering or peeling, purple spots, severe pain, or fever with rapid progression. A new rash after medicine deserves prompt advice, particularly if the mouth, eyes, or genital skin are involved.

Ask whether the distribution fits Contact Dermatitis, Atopic Dermatitis, Heat Rash, Intertrigo, Ringworm, or Drug Rash; whether a breast or nipple examination is needed; and which treatment is suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other medicines.
