Itchy Balls and Groin: What to Know

Sweat and rubbing can inflame the folds, a pattern called intertrigo. Skin yeast infection may cause moist redness, soreness, or small nearby spots. Contact irritation can follow soaps, wipes, laundry products, condoms, or lubricants. Itch may also involve the inner thighs rather than the scrotal skin itself. A clinician can distinguish these causes from other genital conditions by examining the distribution and surface.

Wash gently, rinse well, and pat dry rather than rubbing. Choose loose, breathable underwear and change after sweating. Stop newly added fragranced products and avoid scratching. Do not put household antiseptics or mixed creams on genital skin. If a clinician or pharmacist recommends a topical antifungal treatment, use it exactly as directed and keep the area dry; avoid sharing towels while symptoms are active.

Seek medical care for marked swelling, severe pain, ulcers, blisters, pus, fever, pain when urinating, discharge, or sudden testicular pain. Arrange an assessment if symptoms continue, recur, or do not improve with careful drying and removal of irritants. Sudden pain in a testicle is urgent even when itching is also present.
