Itchy armpit rash during pregnancy

Sweating and skin rubbing can increase as the body changes, making Heat Rash or Intertrigo possible. New sensitivity to deodorant, soap, detergent, or fabric can cause Contact Dermatitis. Atopic Dermatitis may flare with dry or irritated skin. Ringworm, Scabies, Psoriasis, or a Drug Rash remain possible when the pattern or timing fits; pregnancy does not make every armpit rash the same condition.

Record when the itch began, whether it is on one or both sides, and whether there are scales, bumps, blisters, pain, or discharge. Include all medicines, supplements, and products used on the area when speaking with a midwife, doctor, or pharmacist.

Rinse gently, pat the fold dry, wear loose breathable clothing, and change after sweating. Stop newly introduced fragranced products and avoid scratching or shaving the inflamed skin. Use a bland moisturiser only on dry, intact skin and keep moist folds dry.

Check before using medicated creams, including steroid or antifungal products, because the suitable choice depends on the diagnosis, body site, strength, and stage of pregnancy. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without discussing it with the prescriber.

Contact your maternity team or clinician if the rash persists, spreads, recurs, or is difficult to identify. Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, widespread blistering, skin peeling, fever, pus, severe pain, or rapidly spreading redness. A new rash with feeling unwell deserves prompt advice during pregnancy.
