Short answer

Salpingectomy can be performed with a laparoscopic surgery system when keyhole surgery is suitable for the person and procedure.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How laparoscopic removal works

A salpingectomy removes one or both fallopian tubes. With laparoscopy, the surgeon uses a camera and long instruments through small abdominal incisions, usually after the abdomen is gently expanded with gas. The tubes are separated and removed through the planned access points. Laparoscopy may not be appropriate when there is extensive scarring, a need for a larger operation, an emergency situation or another factor that makes open surgery safer.

Planning the operation

Ask whether one or both tubes will be removed, why removal is recommended, and how the operation could affect fertility treatment or future pregnancy plans. Tell the team about previous abdominal surgery, medicines, allergies and possible pregnancy. Confirm the anaesthetic plan, expected activity restrictions, wound care and how follow-up will be arranged. The surgeon can explain whether a laparoscopic system or another approach is most suitable.

When to seek care after salpingectomy

Get prompt medical advice for increasing abdominal pain, fever, repeated vomiting, heavy vaginal bleeding, painful urination or wounds that become red, swollen or open. Seek emergency help for severe pain, fainting, chest pain, trouble breathing or sudden swelling in a leg. A small amount of discomfort can occur during recovery, but worsening symptoms should be checked.

Questions for your doctor

Ask why laparoscopy is suitable, whether both tubes are involved, what happens if the plan changes, how fertility plans are affected, and which recovery symptoms require urgent review.

Questions people ask

Is laparoscopic salpingectomy the same as robotic surgery?

Both use small incisions and a camera, but robotic surgery uses a computer-assisted instrument platform; your surgeon can explain the system planned.

Will salpingectomy always be laparoscopic?

No. The safest approach depends on the reason for surgery, findings, previous operations and your overall condition.
