Is radiofrequency skin tightening done with a radiofrequency device?

A handpiece places radiofrequency energy against or near the skin. Depending on the system, the energy may be delivered through the surface or another specialised applicator. The clinician selects settings and moves the handpiece across the planned area while monitoring comfort and skin response. The goal is controlled heating rather than removing the skin.

Radiofrequency devices vary in depth, energy delivery, cooling, and feedback features. That is why the device name alone does not describe the whole treatment. The treated area, skin condition, and operator technique also influence the plan.

Ask which device and handpiece will be used, whether the treatment is surface-based or delivered at a deeper level, and what sensation or temporary skin changes to expect. Tell the clinician about implants, metal in or near the treatment area, active skin disease, reduced sensation, and recent cosmetic procedures.

Contact the clinic if blistering, marked swelling, increasing pain, unusual colour change, or persistent numbness appears after treatment. Urgent medical care is needed for severe swelling, breathing difficulty, or symptoms suggesting a serious reaction.
