Is myomectomy done with radiofrequency fibroid ablation device?

A myomectomy is surgery to remove one or more uterine fibroids while leaving the uterus in place. Depending on fibroid size, number and location, it may be performed through the vagina and cervix, keyhole incisions or an abdominal incision. Radiofrequency fibroid ablation is a tissue-treatment approach: a device delivers energy into a fibroid, raising its temperature so the treated tissue shrinks over time. The fibroid is not removed as a separate piece. The choice depends on symptoms, imaging, fibroid position, fertility plans and the clinician’s experience with each option.

Bring your scan report and ask which fibroids are causing your bleeding, pressure or pain. Clarify whether the goal is removal, shrinkage, symptom relief or preserving future pregnancy options. Ask about the route, anaesthesia, recovery, possible need for another procedure and how the treatment may affect the uterine wall. Tell the clinician about heavy periods, anaemia, medicines, prior operations and plans for pregnancy.

After treatment, seek prompt medical advice for fever, increasing abdominal pain, heavy vaginal bleeding, foul discharge, persistent vomiting or trouble passing urine. Urgent assessment is needed for fainting, severe weakness, sudden severe pain, chest pain or breathing difficulty. Before treatment, arrange earlier review if bleeding is making you dizzy, breathless or unusually tired, because anaemia may need attention.
