The HPV vaccine is the medicine. HPV vaccination is the healthcare process that includes checking eligibility, giving the injection, recording it, and arranging any further doses that are recommended. The vaccine helps the immune system respond to selected types of human papillomavirus before exposure. It does not treat an HPV infection that is already present, and it does not replace cervical screening when screening is advised.

Tell the vaccinator about previous vaccine reactions, serious allergies, current illness, pregnancy, immune conditions, and medicines. Bring any immunisation record if available. Stay for the observation period advised by the clinic, keep the injection site comfortable, and follow the appointment plan for any additional dose. Ask what to do if a scheduled visit is missed.

Soreness, redness, mild fever, headache, or feeling faint can occur after an injection. Sit or lie down if you feel dizzy and tell clinic staff. Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, facial or throat swelling, widespread hives, or collapse. Report a reaction to the vaccinator so future doses can be assessed safely.
