Irregular periods and pregnancy

Irregular periods do not cause pregnancy; they can make ovulation and fertile timing harder to predict. Pregnancy can happen when sperm meets an egg, including when ovulation occurs earlier or later than expected. A missed period is not proof of pregnancy, so use a pregnancy test if pregnancy is possible.

Anovulation means an egg is not released during a cycle, but ovulation may still occur in another irregular cycle.
