Irregular periods after pregnancy every 2 weeks

After pregnancy, bleeding can come from more than one source: normal postpartum recovery, a returning period, spotting around changing ovulation, or a side effect of contraception. Breastfeeding may make hormone signals less predictable. The timing alone cannot confirm that two bleeds are separate periods.

Anovulation can cause irregular or frequent bleeding. Infection, thyroid problems, polycystic ovary syndrome, pregnancy, or pregnancy-related tissue may also need consideration depending on the timing and symptoms. A symptom such as frequent bleeding does not identify its cause without a clinical history.

Note the first and last day of each bleed, how quickly pads or tampons fill, clots, pain, fever, discharge, breastfeeding, contraception, and any positive pregnancy test. Arrange a medical review rather than assuming every episode is a period, particularly if the pattern repeats or causes tiredness.

The clinician may ask about the delivery and postpartum bleeding, examine you, and consider pregnancy testing, blood tests, or ultrasound. Do not stop prescribed contraception without advice. Treatment depends on the source of bleeding, your health, and whether you want another pregnancy.

Seek urgent help for heavy bleeding, faintness, severe or one-sided pelvic pain, fever, or a positive pregnancy test with pain or bleeding. Prompt assessment is also needed for foul-smelling discharge, worsening pain, or bleeding that is steadily becoming heavier.

Ask whether the episodes could be spotting, postpartum bleeding, or periods; whether pregnancy or infection testing is needed; and how to monitor blood loss. Ask which contraceptive options may make bleeding more predictable and what symptoms should trigger urgent care.
