What should you know about IPL treatment for sun spots?

IPL sends broad flashes of light into the skin. Pigment absorbs some of that energy, and the area may darken or flake before it gradually looks lighter. IPL can be considered for flat sun-related marks on exposed areas, but results depend on the diagnosis, skin tone, tanning, and pigment depth. At consultation, mention recent sun exposure, medicines, pregnancy or breastfeeding where relevant, a history of cold sores, and any tendency to develop dark or light marks after irritation. Afterward, cleanse gently, moisturise as advised, protect the area from ultraviolet light, and leave flakes or crusts alone.
