IPL SR hair removal devices: what to know

SR is a label used on some IPL systems; the important question is what the specific model is designed to treat. IPL light is absorbed by pigment and converted to heat near the hair follicle. Only some hairs are in the active phase at a given time, which explains why treatment is spread across sessions. Dark hair may respond more readily than grey, white, or very light hair.

Skin also contains pigment. A small contrast between skin and hair can make treatment less suitable or increase the chance of an unwanted reaction. Hair reduction varies by body area and individual biology, and some maintenance is commonly part of the plan.

Confirm the model's approved skin tones, hair colours, body sites, and safety features. Do not use it on a recent tan, sunburn, open wound, active infection, or irritated patch. Shave and prepare the area exactly as directed, clean away products, and patch test when required. Keep flashes away from the eyes, tattoos, and moles or other suspicious marks.

Choose the recommended setting and follow the stated interval. Repeated flashes over one spot can increase irritation without improving the result. Protect the treated area from sun exposure and observe it after each session. Store the device safely and do not use it if the casing, cord, or window is damaged.

Stop using the device for blistering, severe pain, marked swelling, pus, fever, or skin colour changes that do not settle. Seek urgent help for facial swelling with breathing difficulty or extensive blistering. A changing or bleeding pigmented mark needs examination rather than cosmetic flashing.
