What should you know about ipi nivo lung cancer?

Ipi-nivo refers to ipilimumab and nivolumab, medicines that release different immune checkpoints. By changing immune signalling, they can help immune cells respond to cancer. The combination is considered only after the oncology team reviews the lung cancer type and stage, tumour test results, previous treatment, autoimmune history, organ function, and other medicines.

Immune treatment can cause inflammation in healthy organs as well as activity against cancer. Effects may involve the skin, bowel, lungs, liver, hormone glands, kidneys, or nervous system. They can occur during treatment or after an infusion, so early reporting matters even when a symptom seems mild.

Before treatment, tell the team about autoimmune disease, transplant history, steroid or immune-suppressing medicines, breathing problems, and previous radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Keep an up-to-date medicine list and attend blood tests and review visits. Record new cough, diarrhoea, rash, abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, vision changes, thirst, or changes in urine.

Contact the oncology team urgently for new or worsening breathlessness, chest pain, persistent cough, frequent diarrhoea, blood in stool, severe abdominal pain, yellow skin, dark urine, a widespread rash, severe headache, confusion, weakness, or much less urine. Call emergency services for severe breathing difficulty, fainting, facial swelling, or sudden neurological symptoms. These signs can reflect immune-related inflammation and need rapid assessment.
