What should you know about Invitec misoprostol?

Misoprostol changes the activity of the uterus and also affects the cervix. Clinicians may use it to help the body pass pregnancy tissue during medical management of miscarriage, or to prepare the cervix and start labour when induction is advised. The dose, route, timing and need for a second dose depend on the reason for treatment and your medical history.

Cramping and vaginal bleeding can occur when the uterus responds. Nausea, diarrhoea, chills or a temporary fever may also happen. These effects can overlap with signs of a problem, so you should receive clear instructions about what to expect and how to contact the treating team.

Use Invitec only in the way prescribed. Confirm how it should be taken, whether you need someone with you, and which pain-relief options are suitable. Keep track of bleeding, pain, temperature and any tablets used. Do not take an extra dose because symptoms have not changed without speaking with the clinician.

Follow-up matters because the team may need to check that treatment has worked and that you are recovering safely. Avoid self-treatment if you are unsure whether the pregnancy location has been confirmed or if you have a condition that could change the medicine’s safety.

Seek urgent medical help for heavy bleeding, severe or worsening abdominal pain, fainting, marked weakness, trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or a fever that persists or makes you feel very unwell. Contact your care team if bleeding or pain is not following the plan you were given, or if you are worried about incomplete treatment.
