What should you know about intertrigo in between bum?

The cleft can hold sweat, residue, and friction close to the skin. This may produce redness, soreness, itching, burning, maceration, or shallow splits. Symptoms can be intensified by long periods of sitting, exercise, tight clothing, or leakage of urine or stool. A rash in this location can also reflect eczema, psoriasis, a fissure, haemorrhoids, or a bacterial or fungal problem. A skin yeast infection is possible when the area remains warm and damp, but appearance alone cannot confirm the cause.

After washing or using the toilet, rinse gently when needed and pat the cleft dry with a soft towel; avoid vigorous wiping. Wear breathable underwear and change it after sweating. Keep the fold ventilated when practical, and use a clean dry layer to limit rubbing. Avoid perfumed wipes, antiseptics, and powders that irritate or clump in moisture. Do not put medication inside the anus unless it is intended for that use. A clinician can recommend a topical antifungal treatment when yeast is involved.

Seek prompt medical care for severe or deep pain, fever, pus, a foul smell, a rapidly spreading rash, marked swelling, or difficulty passing stool. Bleeding, a painful lump, repeated drainage, or a wound that does not close also deserves assessment because it may not be simple intertrigo. Contact a clinician earlier if diabetes or reduced immunity makes skin infections harder to control.

Ask whether the cleft changes are irritation, infection, fissure, or another condition; whether a sample is needed; and which cleansing, barrier, or prescription treatment will avoid irritating the anus.
