Short answer

An Intelect TENS unit uses mild electrical stimulation through skin electrodes to help manage some types of pain, but correct pad placement and clinical advice matter.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

What it does
Provides transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation for symptom relief.
What you feel
Usually a comfortable tingling or tapping sensation.
Skin check
Use electrodes only on clean, dry, intact skin.

What an Intelect TENS unit means

TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. The device sends controlled pulses through adhesive electrodes placed on intact skin near, or sometimes around, a painful area. People may feel tingling, tapping, or a rhythmic sensation rather than strong discomfort. The aim is symptom relief; it does not repair a torn tendon, heal a fracture, or identify the cause of pain.

Settings vary between devices and people respond differently. Skin irritation can occur where electrodes sit. A clinician or physiotherapist can check whether TENS is suitable for your pain pattern and show you where pads should go.

Using it thoughtfully

Read the device instructions before the first session and start with the lowest comfortable intensity. Place electrodes only on clean, dry, unbroken skin, keep wires and pads away from water, and switch the unit off before removing them. Do not place pads over the front of the neck, across the chest, on the head, or over numb or infected skin unless a qualified professional has specifically instructed you.

Avoid using TENS while driving, sleeping, or operating machinery. Stop if you develop burning, worsening pain, dizziness, or a persistent rash. People with an implanted electrical device, certain heart conditions, reduced sensation, or pregnancy should obtain individual medical advice before use.

When to seek care

Arrange a clinical assessment if pain is severe, follows a significant injury, keeps returning, or is accompanied by weakness, spreading numbness, fever, swelling, or loss of function. Seek urgent help for chest pain, fainting, sudden severe weakness, or new loss of bladder or bowel control. TENS should not delay assessment of a new or unexplained symptom.

Questions for your doctor or physiotherapist

Ask whether TENS fits the suspected cause of your pain, where each electrode should be placed, which settings and session length are appropriate, and what warning signs mean you should stop. Also ask how to combine symptom relief with exercises or other treatment.

Questions people ask

Can an Intelect TENS unit cure the cause of pain?

No. It may help manage symptoms, but it does not diagnose or repair the underlying problem.

Can I use TENS on any body area?

No. Pad placement matters; avoid restricted areas and follow professional guidance for your condition.
