Inner thigh yeast infection: symptoms and treatment

Yeast can multiply in warm, moist areas where skin rubs together. The rash may look red, sore, shiny, or cracked, with itch or burning and sometimes small spots at its edge. It may occur alongside vaginal thrush, which can cause vaginal itching, irritation, or a change in discharge. However, eczema, contact dermatitis, friction, bacterial infection, and other skin conditions can look similar. The appearance alone does not prove that yeast is the cause.

Vulval pain may occur when nearby skin is inflamed, but pain, blisters, ulcers, marked swelling, or a strong-smelling discharge suggest that another problem may need checking.

Gently wash the area, pat it dry, change out of damp clothing promptly, and choose loose breathable underwear. Avoid scented washes, scrubs, and scratching. A pharmacist or clinician can advise whether an antifungal treatment is suitable and whether the product should be used on the inner thigh, the vulva, or both. Use treatment exactly as directed and do not share creams or use leftover antibiotics. If the rash does not begin to settle, its diagnosis should be reviewed.

Arrange medical advice for a first episode, a rash that keeps returning, extensive involvement, diabetes, pregnancy, or a weakened immune system. Seek prompt care for fever, rapidly spreading redness, pus, severe pain, open sores, marked swelling, or feeling unwell. Get urgent help for facial swelling or breathing difficulty after a product.

Ask whether the rash looks like yeast or a different skin condition, whether vaginal symptoms need treatment too, and how to prevent moisture and friction from worsening it. Mention recent antibiotics, new products, recurrence, pregnancy, diabetes, or immune conditions.
