What should you know about inflammatory erythema?

Short answer
Inflammatory erythema means skin redness linked to irritation or inflammation, and warmth, pain, swelling, or illness can signal a need for prompt care.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What it may mean
Erythema is visible redness caused by increased blood flow in the skin. It can follow heat, sunlight, friction, an allergy, a product reaction, or an inflammatory condition. The redness may be flat or raised and may come with itching, burning, scaling, tenderness, or warmth. Causes include Contact Dermatitis, Heat Rash, Psoriasis, Rosacea, Sunburn, and Cellulitis. The location, speed of change, skin temperature, and associated symptoms matter more than colour alone.
What you can do now
Stop any newly introduced product on the affected area and rinse gently if residue remains. Use cool compresses, loose clothing, and bland moisturiser on intact skin; avoid scrubbing, heat, and cosmetic procedures while the skin is active. Take a clear photograph and note exposures, medicines, and whether the redness fades with cooling. A clinician can recommend treatment for the cause. IPL Photofacial is a treatment option for selected persistent redness, but it is not a substitute for diagnosing active inflammation or infection.
When to seek care
Seek prompt medical care if redness spreads quickly, feels hot and painful, becomes swollen, blisters, drains, or appears with fever or feeling unwell. Urgent help is needed for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, confusion, faintness, or redness near the eye with vision symptoms. Mild redness after a known irritant may settle after removal, but persistent or recurrent Skin Redness deserves an evaluation.
Questions for your doctor
What pattern does the redness suggest? Could a product, heat, medicine, or infection be involved? What should I use now, and which signs mean I should return urgently?

Questions people ask
Is inflammatory erythema always an infection?
No. Irritation, allergy, heat, sun, and inflammatory conditions can also cause erythema, while infection needs assessment from the full pattern.
When is red skin urgent?
Rapid spread, marked warmth or pain, swelling, fever, feeling unwell, or breathing difficulty warrants prompt or urgent care.
