Industrial piercing keloid: what to know

An industrial bar creates two healing wounds in the upper ear. A keloid can form after either opening and may become smooth, shiny, firm, raised, or darker than surrounding skin. Unlike a hypertrophic scar, it grows outside the original wound boundaries and can spread slowly into nearby skin. It is not the same as acne, an infected piercing, or every skin lump. Itching, tenderness, pulling, or sensitivity can occur even when the surface is intact.
