What should you know about inbody dexa scan?

Short answer
An InBody scan estimates body composition, while a DEXA scan measures bone density and can also describe lean and fat tissue.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the results mean
InBody devices use a small electrical signal to estimate water, muscle and fat distribution. A DEXA scanner uses low-dose X-rays to assess bone mineral density, usually at the hip and spine, and may provide regional body-composition information. These tests answer different questions, so one result cannot replace the other. Results can be influenced by hydration, recent exercise, food, metal objects and the device used. A clinician interprets the report alongside your symptoms, medical history and medicines.
How to prepare
Follow the centre’s instructions. Wear comfortable clothing without metal, remove jewellery when asked, and tell the team if you may be pregnant or have recently had a contrast examination. For an InBody reading, consistent conditions help comparison: use a similar time of day and follow advice about eating, drinking and exercise. Do not change supplements or treatment because of a single reading. Ask whether your scan is intended to assess bone strength, body composition, or both.
When to seek medical advice
Contact a clinician if the report raises concern about low bone density, unexplained weight change or marked muscle loss, or if you have had a fall or fracture. Seek urgent care after a significant injury, sudden severe back or hip pain, or inability to stand or walk. A scan does not explain every symptom, so persistent pain, weakness or unplanned weight change still needs clinical assessment.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which test you need, what each measurement represents, whether preparation is required, and when the findings should be reviewed. You can also ask how the result fits your fracture risk, nutrition, exercise plan or menstrual and hormone history. Premature ovarian insufficiency can affect bone health, so mention changes in periods or hormone treatment if relevant.

Questions people ask
Is an InBody scan the same as a DEXA scan?
No. InBody estimates body composition using bioelectrical impedance, whereas DEXA uses X-rays to measure bone density and may assess body composition.
Can one scan diagnose osteoporosis?
A DEXA bone-density assessment helps evaluate low bone density, but a clinician combines it with your history and fracture risk before making a diagnosis.
