What should you know about the ImuPro blood test?

A blood sample is tested for antibodies associated with foods. Detecting an antibody response can reflect exposure to a food rather than a harmful reaction. It is different from tests used for immediate food allergy, and it cannot establish whether a food is causing anaemia, bowel disease, tiredness, or another medical problem.

Symptoms such as abdominal discomfort, skin changes, or fatigue have many possible causes. Conditions including coeliac disease, Crohn's Disease, Chronic Kidney Disease, or glandular fever need their own clinical assessment. A test report should therefore be considered alongside your history, examination, and appropriate investigations.

Write down the symptoms, foods, timing, medicines, and any changes you have already tried. Take the full report to a GP or qualified dietitian before removing several foods. Broad restriction can make meals unbalanced and may make it harder to identify the true cause of symptoms.

Do not stop prescribed treatment because of a test result. If coeliac disease is being considered, ask about the correct testing pathway before changing gluten intake, because dietary changes can affect assessment. A clinician can also decide whether tests for anaemia, infection, or kidney problems are appropriate.

Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or tongue, faintness, or a rapidly spreading reaction after eating. Arrange prompt medical review for persistent vomiting, blood in the stool, severe abdominal pain, dehydration, unexplained weight loss, or worsening fatigue. These warning signs need assessment regardless of an ImuPro result.
