What should you know about impetigo forehead?

A scratch, insect bite, pimple that has been picked, or irritated patch can break the skin barrier. Impetigo may then appear as a red area, small blister, or shallow sore that leaks and crusts. Touching the forehead can transfer bacteria to the nose, eyelids, hands, or other people. Crusting Skin describes this visible symptom more broadly. Dry or inflamed skin from Atopic Dermatitis can also become a starting point for infection, although a crusted forehead rash is not automatically impetigo and may need an examination.

Clean the area gently and pat it dry; avoid scrubbing, picking, shaving across sores, or applying makeup over open skin. Covering a forehead lesion may be practical only if it can be done without irritating the eyes or surrounding skin. Wash hands after touching the area and do not share towels, pillowcases, cosmetics, hats, or face cloths. Seek prompt medical advice if lesions spread toward the eyelids, nose, or hairline, or if swelling, warmth, pain, or drainage increases. Get urgent help for eye pain, vision changes, severe headache, fever, rapidly worsening facial swelling, or marked illness. Reassessment is needed when the rash does not improve with prescribed treatment or keeps returning.
