What should you know about imiquimod packet?

A packet helps provide a measured, ready-to-use amount for one application or treatment occasion. It does not mean the whole packet belongs on every lesion; follow the prescriber’s instructions for the treated area and amount.

Imiquimod activates a local immune response. Redness, itching, tenderness, scaling and crusting can occur at the site. A packet should not be reused after opening unless the product instructions and clinician specifically allow it, because storage and contamination can affect safe handling.

Wash and dry your hands and the treatment area, open the packet only when ready, and apply a thin layer to the prescribed site. Avoid the eyes, mouth, genital openings and any area not included in your instructions. Wash your hands after application.

Fold or close the packet only as the label directs, keep it away from children and pets, and dispose of the remainder safely. Never use extra product to compensate for a missed application. Contact the prescriber if the packet is damaged, expired or accidentally spilled.

Contact the treatment team if the reaction becomes severe, the area develops marked swelling, pus, extensive sores or increasing pain, or you are unsure whether to continue. Seek urgent help for facial swelling, breathing problems, faintness or widespread blistering.

Ask whether one packet is intended for one application, how much to use, how to dispose of it and what to do with leftovers. Confirm the treatment calendar, follow-up visit and signs that require a pause.
