I have a small ball in my neck: what should I know?

A lymph node can feel rounded and mobile after an infection in the throat, ear, scalp, or skin. A cyst may feel smooth and lie close to the skin. Muscle tension is usually connected with movement or posture rather than a distinct rounded nodule. Arrange prompt review for a hard or fixed lump, continued growth, persistent hoarseness, swallowing difficulty, night sweats, or unexplained weight change. A small size should not delay review when other concerning features are present.
