I don't have dandruff, but my scalp itches

Look for clues such as tightness after washing, redness, burning, sores, hair loss, or patches that spread. A reaction to shampoo, hair dye, fragrance, oils, or styling products can itch even before a rash becomes obvious. Seborrheic dermatitis can affect the scalp with itch and subtle scale; this is related to dandruff but may need different care. Psoriasis, eczema, folliculitis, and fungal infection are other possibilities. Itchy scalp is a symptom, so its presence alone does not identify one condition.
