What should you know about hydrosalpinx rupture symptoms?

A hydrosalpinx is a blocked fallopian tube containing fluid. If the tube leaks or ruptures, pain may begin suddenly and may be felt on one side or across the lower abdomen. Nausea, vomiting, weakness, dizziness, vaginal bleeding, abdominal swelling, or a fever can accompany pelvic pain, although symptoms vary.

These features do not confirm a rupture. Ectopic pregnancy, ovarian cyst complications, pelvic infection, appendicitis, and other abdominal problems can overlap. A clinician may use a pregnancy test, examination, ultrasound, and blood tests to identify the cause and decide how quickly treatment is needed.

If pain is sudden, severe, or worsening, go to an emergency service rather than waiting for a routine appointment. Do not drive if you feel faint or unwell. Tell the team about your last menstrual period, pregnancy possibility, known hydrosalpinx, bleeding, medicines, and previous pelvic surgery. Until assessed, avoid taking someone else's medicine and follow local emergency advice.

Call emergency services for severe pain with fainting, marked dizziness, shoulder-tip pain, heavy bleeding, breathing difficulty, confusion, or a rapid decline. Fever with worsening pelvic pain, repeated vomiting, or a rigid and very tender abdomen also requires urgent review. Even moderate pain deserves prompt advice when pregnancy is possible.

Ask what caused the pain, whether the tube needs treatment, how pregnancy was excluded or confirmed, whether infection is present, and what follow-up is needed for fertility or future pelvic symptoms.
