How to stop bleeding on Nexplanon

The etonogestrel implant releases a progestogen that prevents ovulation, and it can alter the uterine lining. Some users have spotting, frequent bleeding, prolonged episodes, or no bleeding. This pattern does not mean the implant has stopped preventing pregnancy, but new heavy bleeding, pain, unusual discharge, or pregnancy symptoms need medical review because another problem can occur at the same time.

Keep a calendar of bleeding days and note heaviness, cramps, missed medicines, and other symptoms. Book a review if bleeding is bothersome or persistent. After checking your medical history and pregnancy risk, a clinician may offer a temporary medicine or discuss removing the implant. Do not remove it yourself, and do not start hormonal or anti-inflammatory treatment without checking that it is safe for you. If you want to continue contraception, ask about alternatives such as a hormonal coil.

Seek urgent help for very heavy bleeding with faintness or weakness, severe lower abdominal pain, fever, or a positive pregnancy test. Also seek prompt advice if the implant cannot be felt, appears to have moved, or the insertion site is red, swollen, or increasingly painful.
