How long does wet wrap therapy take to work for atopic dermatitis?

A damp inner layer cools the skin and helps hold moisturiser or prescribed medicine against the affected area. A dry outer layer reduces evaporation and rubbing. This can make a flare feel calmer while the skin barrier repairs, but wet wraps do not remove the underlying tendency to eczema. The response depends on the severity and the products used beneath the wraps.

Use the fabric, moisture level, and application schedule shown by your clinician. Apply only the recommended emollient or medicine, secure the wraps comfortably, and change them as instructed. Check the skin during treatment for increasing soreness, swelling, or sogginess. Keep nails short and avoid scratching through the layers. Do not continue an intensive schedule beyond the agreed plan without review.

Stop and seek advice if the wrapped skin becomes more painful, develops marked swelling, or appears infected. Oozing, honey-coloured crusts, rapidly spreading redness, fever, or feeling unwell needs prompt assessment. Contact your care team if itching remains severe, sleep is disrupted, or the flare is not settling within the planned course.
