How long does a thyroid function test take to work for hypothyroidism?

Testing usually compares thyroid-stimulating hormone with thyroid hormone levels. The pattern may support a diagnosis of an underactive thyroid, help monitor replacement treatment or show that another explanation should be considered. Results are read with your symptoms, medical history and medicines rather than in isolation.

Attend the blood test as scheduled and provide a complete list of medicines and supplements. If treatment is prescribed, take it exactly as directed and keep the planned follow-up appointment.
