How long does targeted therapy take to work for non-Hodgkin lymphoma?

Progress may involve smaller lymph nodes, fewer symptoms, improved blood results, or lymphoma remaining controlled. The expected timing differs between lymphoma subtypes and targeted medicines. Some treatments are given alone, while others are combined with chemotherapy, immunotherapy or radiation, so the review plan reflects the whole regimen.

Feeling better is encouraging but does not by itself prove that the lymphoma has responded. Conversely, tiredness or other treatment effects can continue while the medicine is helping. Your team compares examination findings and current tests with your starting results.

Follow the dosing schedule and attend every blood test and review. Record fever, night sweats, weight change, swelling, pain, appetite and energy so your team can see trends. Check before starting any new medicine or supplement, and do not pause treatment without specific instructions.

Ask when the first response assessment is expected and what result would lead to continuing, changing or adding treatment. If you miss a dose or cannot keep tablets down, contact the treatment unit for tailored advice rather than doubling the next dose.

Contact your treatment team urgently about fever, chills, a new cough, worsening breathlessness, persistent diarrhoea or vomiting, bleeding, severe weakness, or rapidly increasing swelling. Seek emergency care for chest pain, severe breathing difficulty, fainting, confusion or a sudden allergic reaction.
