How long does salpingectomy take to work for ectopic pregnancy?

A surgeon removes the affected fallopian tube and the ectopic pregnancy in the same procedure. This stops that pregnancy from continuing in the tube. It does not restore the removed tube, and it does not by itself explain why an ectopic pregnancy occurred.

After surgery, soreness, tiredness and light vaginal bleeding can occur as the body heals. Follow-up may include a blood test for pregnancy hormone until the level falls as expected. Your clinician will also discuss when sex, driving, exercise and trying for another pregnancy are appropriate.

Seek urgent medical help for severe or worsening abdominal pain, fainting, marked dizziness, heavy bleeding, shoulder-tip pain, breathing difficulty, fever, or a wound that becomes increasingly red, swollen or draining. These symptoms need prompt assessment after surgery.

Ask how the operation was performed, when your pregnancy-hormone result should be rechecked, how long to limit strenuous activity, and which symptoms are expected during recovery. You can also ask about contraception or timing of a future pregnancy.
