How long does radiofrequency ablation take to work for degenerative disc disease?

Radiofrequency ablation uses controlled heat near selected pain-carrying nerves, commonly after diagnostic assessment has identified a suitable pain source. It does not rebuild a spinal disc or remove every cause of back pain. The treated area can feel bruised, numb, or more painful for a short time.

Pain relief may develop in stages. Sitting, standing, or walking may become easier before all discomfort disappears. If pain comes from several structures, treating one nerve pathway may leave other symptoms unchanged, which is why the response is reviewed against the original treatment goal.

Follow the discharge instructions for wound care, driving, medicines, and activity. Gentle movement is often preferable to staying in bed, but avoid strenuous lifting or twisting until your clinician permits it.
