How long does pelvic MRI take to work for bicornuate uterus?

A bicornuate uterus has an outer shape with two upper cavities or horns. MRI can show the uterus in several planes and help distinguish its structure from other differences in uterine development. It may also show nearby pelvic anatomy when that information is relevant to your care.

The scan itself is diagnostic rather than a treatment. Your clinician interprets the images alongside your symptoms, examination, menstrual history, and pregnancy history. The report may be available after the radiology review, so the time to a care decision is separate from the time spent in the scanner.

Tell the imaging team if you may be pregnant, have metal fragments or implanted devices, kidney problems, allergies, or difficulty staying in enclosed spaces. Follow the centre’s instructions about food, drink, clothing, and whether contrast is planned.

During the scan, remain as still as you can and use the call button if you feel unwell. Arrange a follow-up conversation so the findings are explained in relation to your own reproductive or pelvic health goals.

Contact your clinician if pelvic pain, unusual bleeding, fever, or pregnancy-related concerns develop while you are waiting for review. During or after contrast, seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or widespread hives.
