How long does a hormonal coil take to work for uterine fibroids?

A hormonal coil may reduce fibroid-related heavy bleeding over the first few months, although spotting can occur early and the fibroids themselves remain in place.

What the timing means
The coil releases progestogen inside the uterus and can make the womb lining thinner. This may reduce menstrual blood loss, but the result depends on the fibroid's size, position, and effect on the uterine cavity. A coil does not shrink or remove a fibroid, and it may not be suitable when the uterine cavity is significantly distorted.
What to do during the settling period
Track the number of bleeding days, flooding, clots, fatigue, and pelvic pressure. Take any prescribed iron or other medicine as directed, and attend imaging or review appointments recommended for your fibroids. If bleeding remains disruptive after the settling period, discuss alternatives or additional treatment.
