How long does a hormonal coil take to work for iron deficiency anaemia?

The coil releases a progestogen inside the womb. It often makes periods lighter over time, which can reduce ongoing iron loss. Spotting or irregular bleeding can occur after insertion before the pattern settles. The coil does not replace an assessment of why anaemia developed, and it does not rapidly restore iron already lost. Blood tests can show whether haemoglobin and iron stores are recovering.

Take prescribed iron exactly as directed and attend planned blood tests. Record bleeding, fatigue, breathlessness and dizziness so your clinician can judge progress. Seek urgent help for soaking bleeding with weakness or faintness, severe pelvic pain, fever, or suspected pregnancy with pain or bleeding. Arrange prompt review if the coil strings change unexpectedly, you cannot feel them when normally able to, or heavy bleeding and tiredness continue.
