Take medicines as directed and protect the incision. Walk regularly in short, comfortable periods, changing position instead of staying in bed for long stretches. Keep lifting, driving, work, and exercise within the limits given by your surgical team. Do not force neck stretches or use additional hands-on treatment without clearance. Call your surgical team for increasing pain after initial improvement, new weakness, spreading numbness, fever, wound redness or drainage, or swallowing problems that are becoming worse. Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, sudden marked weakness, new loss of coordination, loss of bladder or bowel control, or inability to walk safely.
