Short answer

H. pylori symptoms may start easing within days, but clearing the infection requires completing the prescribed combination treatment and later testing.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the timeline means

H. pylori treatment commonly combines antibiotics with medicine that reduces stomach acid. Feeling better does not prove that the bacteria have gone, because acid suppression can calm pain while infection remains. Nausea, altered taste, loose stools, or mild stomach upset can occur during treatment. The ulcer or irritated stomach lining may need additional time to heal after the bacteria are treated.

What to do during treatment

Take every dose at the prescribed times and finish the course unless the prescriber changes it. Missing doses can make treatment less effective. Ask before using antacids, supplements, or other medicines because they may affect how tablets are taken. Arrange the follow-up breath or stool test recommended by your clinician; testing too soon or while taking acid-suppressing medicine can give an unreliable result.

When to seek care

Contact your clinician if symptoms are worsening, do not begin to settle after treatment, or side effects make it difficult to keep medicines down. Seek urgent care for vomiting blood, black stools, severe or persistent abdominal pain, fainting, or repeated vomiting. A rash with swelling of the lips or breathing difficulty needs emergency help.

Questions for your doctor

Ask which medicines should be taken with food, what to do after a missed dose, when to pause acid-suppressing medicine before follow-up testing, and what symptoms would require an earlier review.

Questions people ask

Can I stop when my stomach feels better?

No. Improvement can occur before the infection is cleared, so follow the prescribed course unless your clinician tells you to change it.

Why might discomfort continue after antibiotics?

The stomach lining may still be healing, and acid-related irritation can persist even after treatment has removed the infection.
