Short answer

COVID-19 body aches often improve within several days, although soreness and fatigue can continue after other symptoms settle.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the aches can mean

Muscle aches can occur while your immune system responds to COVID-19. Fever, chills, reduced activity and dehydration may add to the feeling of soreness. Aches alone cannot confirm COVID-19; influenza and other infections can feel similar. If pain continues well beyond the acute illness, or keeps returning, a clinician can consider other explanations such as fibromyalgia, thyroid problems or another infection.

Ways to feel more comfortable

Rest when you need it, drink regularly, and return to normal activity gradually as your energy improves. Gentle movement and a warm shower may ease stiffness. If suitable for you, use an over-the-counter pain or fever medicine exactly as its label directs; ask a pharmacist first if you are pregnant, have kidney or liver disease, have stomach ulcers, or take other medicines. Avoid strenuous exercise while feverish or unusually weak.

When to seek medical care

Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, chest pressure, new confusion, fainting, blue or grey lips, or difficulty staying awake. Arrange medical advice if pain is severe, one-sided, associated with marked weakness, or worsening after initial improvement. Fever with a severe headache, rash, bleeding, or recent travel may need assessment for illnesses such as dengue fever or malaria.

Questions for your doctor

Could another infection or medicine be contributing to my aches? Which pain reliever is appropriate with my health conditions? When is it safe for me to resume exercise? What changes should prompt an urgent review?
